Itinerary
Day 1 – Claremore, OK
Today, you travel to Claremore where you will be staying the next two nights at a local hotel. Dinner is on your own this evening.
Day 2 – Osage Nation Museum & Local Touring – Pawhuska, Home of the Pioneer Woman
In Pawhuska this morning, meet your local guide and roam the Osage Hills around Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Enjoy the tallgrass prairie and much more! Your guide will retell history of the 1920’s oil boom, when the Osage Nation were the richest people in America. Hear stories of riches, historical buildings, famous cowboys, and learn of the Native Osage Culture. Discover why this little town has such big history! Background reading would be the best selling book “Killers of The Flower Moon,” soon to be a Leonardo DiCaprio movie.
Also included today is a visit to The Osage Nation Museum. It is devoted to Osage history, art, and culture. Highlights include an extensive photograph collection, historical artifacts, and traditional and contemporary art. Founded in 1938, the ONM is the oldest tribally owned museum in the United States.
Lunch is on your own today. You may want to sit down for a meal at Bad Brad’s Bar-B-Q joint or Grille 125 and enjoy Pawhuska’s combination—and celebration—of past, present, and future. You could also enjoy lunch at the Mercantile Deli.
This afternoon you visit the Pioneer Woman Mercantile, owned by Food Network TV show host Ree Drummond, aka The Pioneer Woman, this shop is a must-see destination. The Pioneer Woman Mercantile began in 1910 as Osage Mercantile and was a place for trading goods and browsing. Ree and family wanted to honor The Merc’s legacy by creating a shopping experience that hints to an earlier time in small town America. It takes time to see it all, so stop in and stay awhile!
Come explore the glorious cabinets, browse the abundant shelves, and peek in all the drawers! Shopping at The Merc is a treasure hunt, with surprises everywhere you turn. There is also a Deli and a Bakery where you can enjoy comfort food classics in the deli, to hand-crafted bakery items, the offerings are endlessly delicious.
