Itinerary
Day 1 – Shipshewana, IN – Davis Mercantile & Pretzel Rolling – Farm Fun & Dinner at Meadow Brook Farm
Arrive this afternoon in Shipshewana, IN. Start with a visit to Davis Mercantile filled with home décor, apparel, fabrics, candles, and even furniture and shoes. Ride on the full-size Carousel featuring multiple hand-carved and hand-painted farm animals. Your visit to the David Mercantile includes rolling your own pretzels at Jo Jo’s Pretzels – some say they are the “world’s greatest soft pretzels!”
Then check into the Blue Gate Garden Inn a resort-type hotel in the heart of Indiana’s Amish Country, and your home for the next two nights.
Tonight, enjoy Farm Fun and dinner at Meadow Brook Farm. Constructed during the Civil War by a wealthy Chicago family, the home and barns at Meadow Brook farm were built with wood from the surrounding land. There are five original structures, including the home, two barns, a granary, and the smokehouse. Included with your visit to the Farm is a delicious dinner, a time to explore the historic farm own your own, a wagon ride, a storyteller and photo ops with a mini donkey. (D)
Day 2 – Guided Amish Country Roads Tour – Cook’s Bison Ranch & Chuckwagon Lunch – Blue Gate Dinner & Show
After breakfast, meet your local guide for a Full Day Amish Country Roads Tour. Enjoy a memorable journey into the Heart of Amish Country as you meander “Off the Beaten Path” for an authentic look into today’s Amish culture and lifestyle. Meet local business owners in their small cottage shops as they demonstrate what they make and then craft your own souvenir to take home with your local step-on guide sharing insights and interesting bits of information.
Fun farm experiences could include: Carolyn’s Jams and Jellies, visit at an Amish Toy Maker, Meet an Amish Harness Maker, Menno-Hof Amish Mennonite Interpretive Center, visit an Amish school or Workshop for special needs Amish Adults, or the Dutch Country Market.
Also included today is a visit to Cook’s Bison Ranch. Here you will enjoy a Chuckwagon BBQ Lunch and a wagon tour of the farm. Explore the pasture and enjoy the chance to hand feed the great American Bison in its own habitat. Learn the intricacies of raising, feeding, and managing this wild animal.
Following a day of touring, return to the Blue Gate Inn for dinner and an evening of theatre. Enjoy some of the best Amish cooking around and outstanding entertainment. The Blue Gate Theater specializes in the very best of Broadway-style musicals from Amish Country. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – Shipshewana Flea Market – Amish Wedding Feast Option – Depart for Home
After breakfast, visit the Shipshewana Flea Market, the largest Flea Market in the Midwest. (Available Tuesday & Wednesdays, May-Sept). Explore over 700 open-air booths on 40 acres. There is something for everyone- bargains, gifts, home décor, produce, and so much more. Visiting on a Wednesday, you can also check out the weekly Antique & Miscellaneous Auction starting at 9 am in the auction building. Bid on unique items as 6-9 auctioneers sell simultaneously! (B)
**Groups can depart from home after visiting the Flea Market or add an optional Amish Wedding Feast before departing for home.
An Amish Wedding Feast is a once of a lifetime experience feasting on a traditional Amish wedding dinner in the charming setting of “The Carriage House.” Elaine and her son Seth explain what an Amish wedding day is like complete with this special meal that would be traditionally served by the Amish to their wedding guests. Groups see an Amish bride’s wedding dress up close and hear the customary German Wedding song sung at an Amish wedding.
