This is a comprehensive itinerary featuring the history and sights of Boston as well as Ethan Allen’s Green Mountains of Vermont. You’ll ride the trains, sample Ice Cream and cider before motoring into New Hampshire. Where with a clear sky atop Mt Washington you may be able to see each of the four States through which you travel. You will spend significant time in Maine learning about Lobsters and Lighthouses. Itinerary
Day 1 –Boston Arrival
Arrive in Boston, MA where you will be staying for the next two nights. Dinner is on own this evening. If your group is flying we are happy to help you with airport transfers, a touring coach, and anything else you might need.
Day 2 – Boston Local Touring – Kennedy Library – Cheers
After breakfast, meet your local guide for a Boston City Tour. Boston is a wonderful city with beautiful neighborhoods, history, and Old World charm. Visit Beacon Hill, known for its architecture, cobble stone streets, elegant townhouses and 19th century gas lamps. The Victorian Back Bay boasts lovely churches, the Public Garden, Swan Boats, boutiques, galleries, museums and colleges. Explore Revolutionary Boston as you follow the footsteps of our Puritan founders along the Freedom Trail!
Following your tour, you will have free time for lunch on your own at Faneuil Hall, an area comprised of three historic market buildings & a promenade. This afternoon, you tour the John F Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum. Relive the powerful story of the Kennedy years. In three theaters, period settings, and 25 dramatic multimedia exhibits, you will enter the recreated world of the Kennedy Presidency for a “first-hand” experience of John F. Kennedy’s life, legacy, and leadership.
Dinner is included tonight at Cheers, the pub made famous in the TV Show “Cheers.” (B,D)
Day 3 –Vermont – Green Mountains – Ben & Jerry’s
Following breakfast at the hotel, you tour departs Boston for Vermont. Your first stop today is at the Quechee Gorge Village. Quechee Gorge, known as “Vermont’s Little Grand Canyon”, is one of New England’s most popular natural wonders. You will have some free time for shopping and lunch on your own while here.
Then, no visit to Vermont would be complete without a visit to Ben & Jerry’s. Here you will be able to dig into any of their euphoric ice cream flavors, tour the factory and spend time in the world class gift shop.
Continue travel into the heart of the Green Mountains and Waterbury, Vermont where you will by staying the night. Dinner is served at the hotel this evening. (B,D)
Day 4 – Vermont – New Hampshire – Trapp Family Lodge – Mt Washington Cog RR
After breakfast, visit New England’s largest cider mill, Cold Hollow Cider. Learn about cider-making and enjoy samples of cider and other Vermont food products. Don’t forget to stop by the full bakery featuring pies, turnovers pumpkin rolls and other treats.
Next, lunch is included today at the Trapp Family Lodge. Situated on 2,500 acres above the beautiful town of Stowe, VT, the Lodge is a unique mountain resort featuring Austrian-inspired architecture, as well as stunning mountain views. After your buffet luncheon, take a 90 minute tour of the property learning the Von Trapp family history.
This afternoon you travel into New Hampshire and ride on the Mount Washington Cog Railway. Experience a sense of adventure and history on the Cog Railway’s 3-hour round-trip to the top of Mount Washington the highest peak in the northeast at 6,288 feet . This scenic train ride lets you to take in the spectacular panoramic view, spanning the White Mountains of New Hampshire and all of the Northeastern United States.
End the day in North Conway, NH with dinner included this evening at a local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 5 -New Hampshire – Maine – Conway Scenic Railroad – Boothbay Harbor
After breakfast, enjoy another old-fashioned railroading experience on the Conway Scenic Railroad. You journey on historic rail routes in vintage passenger cars from an 1874 train station in North Conway Village, NH.
Then you travel to Boothbay Harbor, Maine for a two night stay at the Boothbay Harbor Inn. Located directly on the waterfront, the Boothbay Harbor Inn offers picturesque views of the harbor combined with a convenient location next to the famous wooden footbridge. Just a short walk will take you to the harbor’s many shops, galleries, restaurants and boating activities. Dinner is included tonight at the hotel. (B,D)
Day 6 -Boothbay Harbor – Down East Clambake
Following breakfast at the hotel, tour Ocean Point, one of the most scenic spots along the rock bound coast of Maine. In the afternoon, depart for a two-hour boat cruise of Boothbay Harbor and the neighboring islands. Be sure to bring your camera. This is some of the most photographed coastal scenery to be found anywhere!
Return to the Inn for a real old-fashioned Down East Style Clambake with all the fixings. Everyone will get clam chowder, a steamed lobster with steamed clams, corn on the cob, red potatoes, and blueberry cake. (Steak or chicken is available for those who do not wish to have lobster and clams.)
You then have some free time for shopping and sightseeing on own in Boothbay Harbor. Explore the antique shops, boutiques, clothing stores, jewelry shops and art galleries of Boothbay Harbor.
This evening you will enjoy dinner in the Inn’s waterfront dining room before Cabaret style entertainment in the lobby. (B,D)
Day 7 –Portland – L.L. Beans – Portland Head Light – Return to Boston
This morning depart Boothbay Harbor and travel to Freeport for a visit to the L.L.Bean Flagship Store and Outlet. L.L. Bean was founded in 1912 by its namesake, avid hunter and fisherman Leon Leonwood Bean in Freeport, Maine. The company began as a one-room operation selling a single product, the Maine Hunting Shoe.
Stop and visit the Flagship Store and just across the street is the Outlet Store. Spend time having lunch on your own at the store’s cafe.
Continue travel to Portland where on arrival, you will meet a local guide for a city tour. Portland is Maine’s largest city-by-the-sea. You’ll see views of sea captain houses and the elegant Victoria Mansion as you drive through historic neighborhoods overlooking the islands of Casco Bay in Portland Harbor. Your tour includes a stop at Portland Head Light. This historic landmark is the most photographed lighthouse in America.
Return to Boston for an overnight stay. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 8 – End Tour – Depart for Home
After breakfast is morning at the hotel, depart for home. (B)
