Itinerary
Day 1 – Wellsboro, PA – Historic Penn Wells Hotel – Wine & Cheese Welcome Reception
Wellsboro, PA is in rural North Central, PA away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Here an all-inclusive tour package features the Historic Penn Wells Hotel, located in the heart of a small town historic district.
Enjoy a welcome spread of assorted cheeses, crackers and wine while your bags are delivered to your room. Then dinner is served in the beautiful Mary Wells Dining Room (D)
Day 2 – Pennsylvania Grand Canyon – Wagon Tour & Cowboy Lunch – Historic Wellsboro Walking Tour – Dark Skies at Cherry Springs Park
After breakfast at the hotel, meet your local guide for a day of touring in the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, also referred to as the Pine Creek Gorge, it stretches for over 45 miles with depths of nearly 1500 feet. The dynamic topography of the PA Grand Canyon creates many scenic wonders, including steep canyon walls and waterfalls. Your touring starts with a horse-drawn covered wagon ride through the wondrous Canyon. The tour guides are fluent in the history of the Canyon going back to the 19th century and will tell the tales, while the horses wind their way on the Pine Creek Rail Trail. Also included with your tour is a Cowboy Lunch.
This afternoon, meet your your guide in the hotel lobby for a Historic Walking Tour. Stroll the gas-lit streets of Victorian downtown Wellsboro, and enjoy its quaint small-town charm, while your guide tells you about the history and significance of the area.
Dinner this evening is at a local restaurant. Following which you see the Dark Skies at Cherry Springs Park. Inspiring awe and delight, Dark Skies is home to the world’s second certified International Dark-Sky Park. It is world-famous for being one the best places in the US for stargazing and the study of astronomy. On any given night, 10,000 stars are visible to the naked eye. It is mesmerizing, you will see the stars like you’ve never seen them before. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – Highland Chocolates Tour – PA Lumber Museum – Patterson Maple Farms – Free Evening in Historic Wellsboro
After breakfast, enjoy a tour of Highland Chocolates. At Highland you watch chocolate treats being made right in front of your eyes! Guests are invited to tour the factory and meet the extraordinary staff, while learning about the process of making their handcrafted and hand-packaged premium chocolate treats from start to finish.
Next at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum you learn a little about the industry and it’s history. Discover the courageous, yet reckless spirit of old-time lumberjacks while learning to care for the forests of the future. Interactive exhibits that are hands-on with history include swinging an ax, sawing a tree, piloting a log raft and racing locomotives. Outdoor exhibits located across the 10-acre campus include a re-created early 20th-century lumber camp, a 70-ton Shay Locomotive and a Barnhart log loader. There are two historic log cabins- one built by the C.C.C. in 1936 and the other constructed in 1961 by outdoor enthusiasts Bob & Dotty Webber.
Your afternoon includes a visit to Patterson Maple Farms, the largest maple producer in Pennsylvania and second-largest in the nation! Get
a glimpse into 4th generation sugar makers with a tour of the facility. A sit down tasting of pancakes served with their very own maple syrup,
ham cooked in maple syrup, maple sausage, apple wedges to sample their maple cream and their maple sugar too. After the tour and food
sampling you will have an opportunity to shop in their store.
Tonight, enjoy a free evening to explore Historic Wellsboro on your own. Enjoy an evening to simply relax and converse with other travelers in the Hotel Lobby. Or you might want to see a movie at the Arcadia Theatre located next door. Dinner is on your own this evening. (B,L)
Day 4 – Corning Glass Museum w/lunch – Rockwell Museum of Western Art – Rookie Cooks Academy Cooking Class & Dinner
After breakfast, you travel to nearby Corning, NY and tour the Corning Glass Museum. See glass in a new light at the largest collection of art glass in the world. There are nearly 50,000 objects representing more than 3,500 years of history displayed in the galleries; items range from the portrait of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh to contemporary sculpture. The Museum’s highly regarded curators and librarians actively acquire materials for the museum.
Included with your visit is a glass blowing demonstration, a great way to see how glass is made by amazing artists every day. A Lunch Voucher is also included with your visit today.
Then visit to the Rockwell Museum of Western Art. More than a museum – The Rockwell is a unique community center where people enjoy, connect, and reflect on the essence of the American experience, character and values through the eyes of American artists. Housed in the beautifully restored 19th- century Historic Old City Hall in Corning, New York, The Rockwell lays at the heart of the greater Finger Lakes fine arts community. The diverse collection includes a mix of nineteenth-century American paintings, historic bronzes, Native American objects, twentieth-century modernists, illustration art and contemporary photography.
Returning to Wellsboro, this evening enjoy the Rookie Cooks Academy Cooking Class & Dinner. Indulge your senses in an unforgettable journey through the heart of Tioga with this exclusive event, “Taste of Tioga.” Immerse yourself in the rich flavors and artisanal delights that define this picturesque region, as Rookie Cooks presents a culinary experience like no other.
