Itinerary
Day 1 – Houghton Lake, MI – Gordon Lightfoot Tribute Show
Arrive today in Houghton Lake, MI where you will be staying the night at an area hotel. Dinner is included at the hotel this evening.
Following dinner, you enjoy the Gordon Lightfoot Tribute Show (as available). A five-piece band that replicates the songs, styles and moods of the Canadian singer-songwriter’s best! Be ready for a visual, acoustic trip from the Great Lakes to the Canadian Rockies; through the pains of lost loves and haunting melodies. (D)
Day 2 – Castle Farms – Charlevoix – Mackinac Island
Heading to Charlevoix this morning, you arrive in time for lunch and a tour at Castle Farms. Step back in time with a visit to Castle Farms, one of Michigan’s premier historical attractions. Castle Farms offers the chance to explore acres of gardens, discover dragons, and experience Michigan’s largest outdoor model railroad. You will tour the magnificent soaring stone towers, majestic stone walls, and romantic courtyards and hear the story of Albert Loeb and his prizewinning herd of Holstein-Friesian dairy cows who called the castle home nearly one hundred years ago.
Then you meet a local guide for a tour of Charlevoix, one of Michigan’s most charming towns and home to the architecturally unique Earl Young homes. Dating from 1921 to 1950s the “Mushroom Houses” are built out of native stone and sport cedar shake roofs; you will think that hobbits live there.
Then this afternoon you board the ferry to Mackinac Island. As you step foot on the Island, you will feel like you have stepped back in time to the Victorian Era. Check into your Mackinac Island hotel the night. Enjoy a free evening to explore the island and have dinner on your own. (B,D)
Day 3 – Horse-Drawn Carriage Tour – Thunder Bay Resort – Elk Viewing – Gourmet Meal
Your day begins with a scenic ride around the Island on a Horse-Drawn Carriage. Motorized vehicles are not permitted on the island, so horse-drawn vehicles transport everything from supplies to island passengers. After your tour, you can continue exploring the island and doing a little shopping. Visit some of Mackinac Island’s unique shops and be sure to taste some of the famous Mackinac Island fudge before boarding the ferry to Mackinaw City.
This afternoon once the ferry arrives in Mackinaw City, you travel to the Thunder Bay Resort for the night. Poised on 400 acres in the heart of Northeast Michigan, it is beautiful in every season. This evening enjoy an Elk Viewing Carriage ride through the Thunder Bay Resort. Cross the Thunder Bay River to see newborn calves and world class bull elk in velvet. It’s magical to see such large antlers in velvet this close up! The carriage ride ends at the beautiful Elk Antler Log Cabin where a blazing fire in the massive fireplace awaits you. Here you enjoy a Five-Course Gourmet Meal and Wine Tasting. (B,D)
Day 4 – Depart for Home
After breakfast, depart for home. (B)
