Itinerary
Day 1 – Lincoln, NH – Today, arrive in Lincoln, NH located in the heart of New Hamsphire’s White Mountains. Check into the Indian Head Resort (or similar) for a four-night stay. Enjoy dinner this evening at a local restaurant. (D)
Day 2 – Kancamagus Highway – Settlers Green Outlet Village – Conway Scenic Railroad – Granite State Railroad
This morning, travel the Kancamgus Highway, one of the most scenic Byways in America, to North Conway, NH. Start the day with some free time for shopping and lunch on own at the Settlers Green Outlet Village. Enjoy tax-free shopping at over 75 outlets, local boutiques, retail stores and restaurants.
Then take a ride on the Conway Scenic Railroad. This excursion allows you to experience the thrill of Golden Age of American railroad travel when trains connected towns and cities. Ride in one of the vintage rail cars and take a relaxing train journey back in time. All aboard to discover the beauty of New Hampshire’s mountains, rivers, and valleys.
Returning to Lincoln, NH, end the day with a ride on the Granite State Railroad. Departing the station in Lincoln, you will take a journey in the restored vintage coaches on the Granite State Scenic Railway. You’ll travel south along the banks of the Pemigewasset River on the historic rail system that dates back to the late 1800’s when logging was the area’s primary industry.
This evening, enjoy dinner on your own. (B)
Day 3 – Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad – Lake Cruise – Café Lafayette Dinner Train – This morning you travel to Meredith where you board the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad. Enjoy a ride along the western shore of Lake Winnipesaukee in the restored vintage coaches. You’ll enjoy panoramic views of the lake on one side of the train, and views of beautiful vacation homes can be seen on the other side.
Departing the train at Weirs Beach, you board the M/S Mount Washington for a cruise on Lake Winnipesaukee. Experience the majesty of Lake Winnipesaukee during a narrated scenic tour aboard the historic M/S Mount Washington. Learn about the history of the region and local folklore, surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in New England. Lunch will be included today at a local restaurant.
Late afternoon travel to North Woodstock, NH where you board the Café Lafayette Dinner Train. Featuring a two hour train ride complete with a 5 course dinner aboard 1950’s restored vintage rail cars, the Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train is a dining experience of a lifetime.
The Cafe Lafayette travels 20 miles along the Pemi River Valley, on a historic timberline dating back to the early 1800’s. Once aboard, travel south from the train station in North Woodstock, through the woods, over 3 trestle bridges, through the Jack-O-Lantern golf course, and a Christmas tree farm in Thornton. Then return on the same line back to our train station in North Woodstock. (B,L,D)
Day 4 – Franconia Notch State Park – Ride the Mount Washington Cog Railway – Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway
This morning, visit Franconia Notch Sate Park located in the heart of White Mountain National Forest and home to Old Man Mountain. Franconia Notch is a spectacular mountain pass traversed by a unique interstate, which extends from the Flume Gorge at the south end to Echo Lake Beach at the Northend. Visit Flume Gorge which includes an 800′ long gorge with sheer 70 “I90” rock walls.
Next, take a thrilling ride on the Mount Washington Cog Railway. Experience a sense of adventure and history on the Cog Railway’s 3-hour round-trip to the top of Mount Washington, the highest mountain peak in the Northeast. This scenic train ride allows you to take in the spectacular panoramic view, spanning the White Mountains of New Hampshire and all of the Northeastern United States.
The afternoon includes a ride on the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway. The aerial tramway is one of New Hampshire’s most spectacular rides. The tramway brings visitors to the 4,080′ summit of Cannon Mountain in approximately eight minutes. On a clear day, you will enjoy views of the mountains of New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Canada, and New York.
Returning to Lincoln this evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)
