Itinerary

Day 1 – Grapevine, TX  

Arrive in Grapevine, TX for a two night stay at the new Hotel Vin, Grapevine’s first hotel in the Main Street Historic District in 84 years!  Every room comes with a free bottle of Wine. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant close to the hotel. Following dinner, enjoy free time in Historic Downtown Grapevine.  Live entertainment is available downtown every Tuesday through Saturday. (D)

Day 2 – Historic Downtown Grapevine – Grapevine Vintage Railroad – Fort Worth Stockyards – Texas Cowboys Hall of Fame – Fort Worth Cattle Drive – Dinner at Billy Bob’s Texas – Stockyards Championship Rodeo

Enjoy a free morning to explore Historic Downtown Grapevine. Anchored by Main Street, this walkable, preserved historic area is home to winery tasting rooms, the Palace Arts Center, the Grapevine Glockenspiel Clock Tower, one-of-a-kind shops, and art galleries.

Next, you take a ride on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad where you will travel along the historic Cotton Belt Route Grapevine to the Fort Worth Stockyards. You will take a step back in time and experience train travel as it was in the glory days of the expanding West. Pull into the Fort Worth Stockyards Station and you are right in the middle of the Stockyards National Historic District where the Old West comes alive.

Arriving at the Fort Worth Stockyards, you will have some free time to explore the area. You may want to take a historic Walking Tour, visit the Texas Trail of Fame, browse over 25 unique shops including an art gallery, sports store and great restaurants that offer anything from ribs to enchiladas.

Visit the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame honoring the men and women who have excelled in the sport and business of rodeo, and the western lifestyle in Texas.  The 100+ inductees include:  Nolan Ryan, Tommy Lee Jones, Trevor Brazile, Don Edwards, George Strait, Lane Frost, Ty Murray and more.  The building, housing the Museum, is one of the horse and mule barns in the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District.

You will also see the famous Cattle Drive that travels through the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards. The Fort Worth Herd is the world’s only twice daily cattle drive, held every day at 11:30 AM & 4:00 PM in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Drovers are available before and after each cattle drive for photo ops and questions.

Tonight enjoy dinner, live music and dancing at Billy Bob’s Texas “The World’s Largest Honky Tonk.” Located in the Historic Stockyards, Billy Bob’s is a unique entertainment facility.

Following dinner enjoy the Stockyards Championship Rodeo (Friday & Saturday only). The world’s only year round rodeo , this is an authentic Western Competition with bull riding, tie down roping, team roping, barrel racing, bronco riding and break away roping and more.  Return to Grapevine for the evening. Day 3 – Southfork Ranch Tour & Lunch – Chicasaw Cultural Center – Bedré Fine Chocolate – Oklahoma City – Dinner at Toby Keith’s “I Love This Bar” Restaurant

Departing Grapevine today, you stop in nearby Plano, TX at the Southfork Ranch.  Tour the famous Ranch, known worldwide as America’s most famous Ranch. Included with your tour is a great Texas BBQ lunch at the Ranch.

Next stop today is Sulphur, OK and the Chickasaw Cultural Center, a world-class museum complex devoted to the celebration of Chickasaw history and culture. Using modern technology and richly theatrical environments, the Chickasaw Cultural Center will immerse you in the vibrant, ongoing story of the Chickasaws.

Located on 184 acres of rolling hills, woodlands and streams, this museum complex features more than 96,000 sq ft of indoor space, including an exhibit center, the Holisso Research Center and a large-format theater. An amphitheater, sky terrace, traditional village and several water features also reside on the grounds.

Begin your journey in the Chikasha Poya Exhibit Center with a 20-minute film in a theater designed to resemble an 18th century-style council house. The screen then rises and you walk over a stream to the Spirit Forest, an interactive exhibit featuring native plants and animals. Exhibits on ancient ancestors, mounds and artifacts and the separation of the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations continue in separate galleries.

Then stop for a treat at Bedré Fine Chocolate, the only Native American owned chocolate company in the world.  They are famous for their chocolate covered potato chips.

Continue travel to Oklahoma City, OK where you spend the next two nights at a hotel located in Bricktown.  Dinner is included this evening at Toby Keith’s “I Love This Bar” Restaurant. Named for the country singer’s hit single, Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill offers a down-home dining and entertainment experience right in the middle of OKC’s historic Bricktown. Come as you are for daily beer specials and good, old-fashioned country favorites like chicken fried steak, pork chops topped with homemade jalapeño peach jam – even calf fries! (B,L,D)

Day 4 – National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum – Oklahoma City Memorial – Free Time in Bricktown – First Americans Museum – American Banjo Museum Dinner & Performance

This morning tour the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.   From Albert Bierstadt’s glowing landscape, Emigrants Crossing the Plains, and works by Remington and Russell, to Native American art, see some of the finest Western art in the country. Round out the tour with a look at the evolution of the working cowboy to their portrayal in film and pop culture. The Museum’s Hall of Great Western Performers includes musicians (and Oklahoma native) Gene Autry, Vince Gill and Reba McEntire.

Next, visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial, dedicated to the victims of the bombing in Oklahoma City of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The Outdoor Symbolic Memorial stands on the now-sacred ground where the events of April 19, 1995, unfolded. What was once the footprint of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, Fifth Street, the Athenian Building and Oklahoma Water Resources Board are now the Field of Empty Chairs, Reflecting Pool and Rescuers’ Orchard.

Then enjoy free time for lunch on own and shopping in the Bricktown District.  Once a busy warehouse district, Bricktown is Oklahoma City’s hottest entertainment and dining area, with numerous restaurants, and shopping available. Bricktown is also full of public art including sculpture, murals and even performance art.

The afternoon features a visit to the new First Americans Museum.  In one place, you will experience the collective histories of 39 distinctive First American Nations in Oklahoma today. First Americans Museum will share the cultural diversity, history, and contributions of the First Americans.

Only a few tribal Nations were indigenous to what is now the State of Oklahoma. All others were removed from homelands across the contiguous U.S. to Indian Territory. In 1907 Oklahoma became the 46th state to enter the union. The state’s name comes from two Choctaw words “Okla” and “Homma” meaning Red People.

This evening, head to The American Banjo Museum for dinner along with an exclusive performance and a tour. The museum houses the largest collection of banjos on public display in the world and is the only museum dedicated to just the banjo. Discover banjo history from its humble African roots through its heyday during the roaring ’20s to its present-day voice in bluegrass, folk, jazz and world music. Then, take a seat in the performance venue modeled after one of the wildly popular banjo nightclubs of the 1960s, known as Your Father’s Mustache, to enjoy dinner followed with an exclusive banjo performance.
